The Meadows Ranch has proven expertise in the treatment of anorexia and other eating disorders. Our knowledge and practices come from years of extensive research, intervention, and experience. We have watched individuals rediscover their true selves and find healing from this damaging condition.

Treatment for anorexia at The Meadows Ranch includes a mix of individual therapy, group therapy, and family work. Our age-appropriate program offers care to girls as young as eight and ensures that each one receives treatment from professionals specializing in her specific age group (we offer separate programs for adult women and adolescent/pre-teen girls). Patients move between acute inpatient, residential, and partial-hospitalization levels of treatment depending on their specific needs and their progress.

Program Highlights for Anorexia Treatment

Our program includes:

  1. An individualized treatment plan. Each patient has an individualized treatment plan implemented by a team of professionals. Treatment plans include a psychiatric and primary care provider, a registered dietician, a licensed master’s or doctoral-level therapist, a psychologist, and registered nurses.
  2. Co-occurring disorders treatment. Along with treating the patient’s eating disorder, the team also treats co-occurring issues such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, or trauma.
  3. Experiential therapies. In addition to individual and group therapy, patients engage in experiential treatments such as art, body image, equine, and challenge course that allow them to express feelings they might not be able to verbally and put to use the tools they’re learning in both practical and creative ways.
  4. State-of-the-art technology. Our Brain Center offers neuro- and biofeedback, helping patients learn self-regulation and calming techniques that make therapy more effective. We also have a metabolic cart on site to measure carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in patients, providing detailed information on body function.
  5. Family involvement. A key and critical component of anorexia treatment is family involvement. Family members can learn how to support their loved one, but we believe families have suffered greatly and need healing, too. This is accomplished not only through therapeutic phone calls, but also during intensive family work, which usually occurs halfway through treatment.

Treatment duration is highly flexible and based on each patient’s unique needs. The Meadows Ranch is dedicated to equipping both individuals and their families with the training and resources they need to continue the recovery journey once inpatient treatment has been completed.
