How We Can Help

Our program seeks to disempower the eating disorder by uncovering the complex psychological factors contributing to an unhealthy relationship with food. We have a proven track record of treating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and a wide range of other eating disorders. While we address the food-related behaviors in creative, positive ways, we also take an in-depth look at the underlying issues and trauma that lead to eating disorders in the first place.

Binge Eating Disorder: What You Need to Know

Key facts about binge eating disorder include:

  • BED occurs when an individual partakes in binge eating episodes at least once a week for three months or more.
  • Binge eating is different from overeating in several ways, but one of the main differences is that those who suffer from BED experience compulsion or lack of control during an episode.
  • BED is strongly associated with high sensitivity to stress, poor self-perception, chronic medical conditions, impaired sociability, and psychiatric conditions.
  • BED affects women slightly more than men, and it often emerges during young adulthood.
  • Binge eating is a component of another eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, which involves purging behavior to compensate for the large quantities of food an individual consumes during an episode. However, when suffering from BED, an individual does not necessarily participate in any purging behaviors.
